Many of our clients at the Law Office of Jeremy Rosenthal are confused or unaware of what to bring with them to their initial consultation with us. Some come with a folder full of pictures, documents and lists of questions, while others simply have their story of what happened. There is no right or wrong way of preparing for your initial meeting, and we welcome you to speak with us about your accident without bringing any pictures or papers. In fact, we encourage you to speak with us as soon as possible following your accident which may mean you have no documents to share. Nevertheless, if you plan to come prepared, here are a few suggestions on what to bring to your first meeting with us:
Photographs / Recordings
Any and all photographs and/or video recordings will be extremely helpful during your initial consultation. If you were in a car accident, photos and recordings of the scene of the accident, any vehicles or property involved in the crash and/or image(s) of the surrounding area will be important. Pictures of just the damage to your vehicle will also be important.
If you were in a slip-and-fall, photos or recordings of the scene of the accident and the surrounding area would be great to bring.
Providing pictures or video recording(s) to the attorney you speak with may be extremely easy if you used your Smartphone to take them. Simply bring your phone to our meeting!
Police or Incident Reports
After a slip-and-fall or car accident, you should always ensure to get an incident report or police report, respectively. This documentation will provide critical details of what happened, who was there, when the accident occurred and where. The report(s) will likely also become critical evidence in your case if your claims are litigated. More importantly, the police/incident report may reveal any strengths or weaknesses in your case.
Contact Information of Any Medical Service Providers
In order to recover damages for your injuries and medical treatment, you will need to provide all your medical bills, doctor reports and medical records. By obtaining the names and contact information of any doctors, therapists or other medical providers that cared for you as soon as possible, we can avoid delay in gathering the evidence we need to build your case and prove your damages.
Contact Information of Any Witnesses
At the scene of an accident, whether a slip-and-fall or car wreck, you should always record the name(s) and phone number(s) of any eye witnesses. Eye witness testimony can be extremely beneficial to your case. Unfortunately, the memories of eye witnesses tend to fade as time goes on. This is why it's great to bring this information to your first meeting with us, so we can obtain legally admissible witness testimony as soon as possible following your accident.
While we strongly recommend speaking with us before speaking with insurance companies, if you have already reported your accident or communicated with any insurers, then bring any claim numbers you have been given and telephone numbers of any insurance companies you have spoken to. This will help us gather facts and notify the insurer(s) involved of our representation (of you).
Remember, you are not required to bring anything with you to your initial consultation with us. But if you do bring any or all of the above materials, we can get a head start on your representation and seeking the damages that you need to recover from your injuries.
